Along the way he met Terry Poyser, who was on a similar mission to research the combat death of a Fox Company man from his hometown. Together, the two authors proceeded to locate and interview every surviving Fox Company vet they could find. The result was a wealth of fascinating firsthand accounts of WWII combat as well as new perspectives on Dick Winters and others of the “Band,” who had since become famous.

Told primarily through the words of participants, Fighting Fox Company takes the reader through some of the most horrific close-in fighting of the war, beginning with the chaotic nocturnal paratrooper drop on D-Day. After fighting through Normandy the drop into Holland saw prolonged ferocious combat, and even more casualties; and then during the Battle of the Bulge, Fox Company took its place in line at Bastogne during one of the most heroic against-all-odds stands in U.S. history.

As always in combat, each man’s experience is different, and the nature of the German enemy is seen here in its equally various aspects. From ruthless SS fighters to meek Volkssturm to simply expert modern fighters, the Screaming Eagles encountered the full gamut of the Wehrmacht. The work is also accompanied by rare photos and useful appendices, including rosters and lists of casualties, to give the full look at Fox Company which has long been overdue.

Terry Poyser is a police officer and parachutist who began researching Fox Company in 2000. He has made numerous trips to the battlefields in Europe and traveled throughout the United States to interview veterans for his research. He currently lives in Northern California. William “Bill” Brown was born in Belleplane, Kansas in October 1927, and is a retired air traffic controller and private pilot. Bill also served in the US Navy in WWII. He lives in Southern California.

An amazingly detailed book with excellent references to names, places and battles. No matter how much I've read about WWII, I'm continually stunned at the job done by "The Greatest Generation" in horrible conditions while witnessing gruesome endings to their close friends' lives. The world cannot thank them enough for granting freedom to so many!!!

The book is written by Jonathan S. Kahan, Partner, Hogan Lovells US LLP in Washington, D.C. Jon is a co-director of the firm s food, drug, medical device, and agriculture group, and has been practicing in FDA law for 40 years. Jon is also an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University Law School teaching medical device law. His practice focuses primarily on assisting medical device companies in navigating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory process. He also has an extensive practice in combination products, which includes combinations of drugs, devices, and biologics. In addition to the daily counseling of clients in FDA-related matters, he represents many clients in administrative hearings and trials, and in the federal courts. Excellent, readable resource

Thorough review of the latest regulations, practices and thinking by the FDA. The book indicates the areas where there is still ongoing debate and lets the reader know the regulation at the time of printing, then provides information for finding if there are new updates since the printing. I like that the book is not fully pro FDA - it objectively discusses FDA actions and history of the evolution of the current regulations. I was not looking forward to having to read this book for a Medical Device class, but now have found it interesting and even engrossing to read. This is one of those books that I will use as a go-to guide for anything related to medical device regulation.

Comprehensive resource

Many changes have occurred since the 2009 edition. This latest update keeps on top of these recent changes including "guidances related to mobile medical apps and medical device software, including medical data software systems" driven by all the new technology (e.g. iPads). It is very interesting reading as well. This is a must-have on your shelf if you are involved in any aspect of medical device regulation.

I truly enjoyed this book. The history and in depth look at how culture and politics has affected the way women are treated in respect to their standing in the church is just what we need to understand. Mr Edwards brings it all back to the truth of what Jesus did for us as believers. He points out that we are all equal in our standing with Him and in our service to Him. Bob Edwards lives with his wife and two children in Canada. He holds degrees in Religious Education, Social Development Studies and Social Work. In 2013, he received the Delta Epsilon Chi award for intellectual achievement, Christian character and leadership ability, from the Association for Biblical Higher Education. Bob has been a Social Worker since 1996, providing psychotherapy in a variety of settings. He was the Director of Counselling Studies at a multi-denominational Bible College, teaching courses in Psychology, Sociology and Counselling. His hope is to share a vision of God’s impartial love towards women and men everywhere.

Short book on long history of patriarchy.

Patriarchal rule and gender specific hierarchy is not of God's will, but a result of the Fall. Edwards pointed out where and how Bible scholars had gone wrong: from their faulty interpretation of creation to their unwitting acceptance of cultural norms, including gender expectations, as God's divine order. He demonstrates with solid scholarship how the emergence of male domination in human culture and its subsequent persistence came from ancient Roman laws which in turn greatly influenced early Church scholars such as Augustine, who associated sexual desires with guilt and shame. Ancient cultural norms thus became mental lenses through which we see things, and since seeing is believing, we believe in what we see, and more significantly, we see in things what we believe. If we believe women to be inferior, we see inferiority in the word "Helper" when it is applied to Eve, even though there is no evidence to such a conclusion.

Edwards painstakingly compared ancient laws and Church documents to show how Church laws are a direct reflection of ancient culture. It is a study of male domination and the Church in historical context. Its legacy includes biased bible translation. Edwards pointed out the fallacy of some recent documents that keep women in a perpetual state of inferiority, such as the Danvers Statement.

Belief has consequences. As a psychotherapist, Edwards observed the impact of male domination on women as profoundly disturbing, tragic and at times downright abusive. He cites examples from the Bible to show this is not how God treats women. Finally, Edwards calls for the church to set women free.

The book is only 84 pages long, excluding references. It is easy on the eye as the lines are 1.5X spaced. There is a great deal packed in this little book.

Good starter resource

This booklet is a great starter resource for anyone interested in looking deeper into some of the 'difficult' passages regarding women's roles as leaders in the church. Edwards presents basic but insightful evidence for a Biblically-based egalitarian view, but leaves it to the reader to delve more deeply into the topic by including a more than adequate Bibliography. I would recommend this to anyone new to the issues facing women in ministry in the church today, but also to those looking for a refresher on the subject or material for presenting a study or starting a conversation with others.

insightful and scholarly call for the oppression of women to end!

This is a great little book -- full of meaty historical information and significant insight into why men feel the need to control and oppress women in the Church. The author explains how Romans 16:7, regarding Junia, has been altered, and how other passages, especially 1 Timothy 2:12, badly translated in an effort to keep women from Church leadership. He exposes the dire consequences of men blaming women for male failure, rather than managing themselves in a Christlike way.

I highly recommend it. It also provides a great list of references for further reading and study. Sadly, complimentarians may not take any notice of the types of arguments in this book. Sadly, they seem to regard this type of scholarship as a betrayal of the clear meaning of scripture (by which they mean certain English translations they particularly agree with). But, those who have a heartfelt desire to see both male and female being all they can be in Christ will be very encouraged by this enjoyable read.

About the Author

Georg Northoff is a neuroscientist, psychiatrists and philosopher holding degrees in all three fields. Being an endowed chair at the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research/Canada, he is well known and internationally recognized as one of the leading proponents of interdisciplinary work at the intersection between neuroscience, psychiatry and philosophy. His empirical work focuses on brain imaging of the self while his more theoretical work aims to develop the disciplines of neuropsychoanalysis and neurophilosophy. He published several academic books and papers in the leading neuroscientific, psychiatric and philosophical journals. His most recent book The search for the Ego. Ok so I read this one as part of a trilogy (Solms' Clinical studies in Neuropsychoanalysis and Bernstein's A basic theory of Neuropsychoanalysis being the other two), and as it turns out, Neuropsychoanalysis in practice may be the closest thing to a basic theory of this new discipline. While in his book Solms introduced the necessity of a transdisciplinary approach in order to tackle the fundamental problems about the human mind (not devoid out of beauty thanks to the clinical cases), Northoff goes all the way here, from philosophy of mind, to neuroscience, to psychoanalysis; with enough originality and refinement of ideas to constitute a tour de force. While its contents are way too complex for me to summarize here (just take a look at the table of contents), I feel after this Neuropsychoanalysis may be an enterprise with enough heaviness to stand on its own. Transepistemic integration, that's the way of the future.

This is a tough read, but worth the effort. This book is for psychologist, psychiatrists, neuroscientists, and philosophers. Dr. Northoff presents decades of scientific research from philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience to offer a trans-disciplinary perspective of how the mind works. This volume is one of the freshest perspectives that I have read in many years.

Doesn't shy away from honest questions

This book prompts us to look at the deep and honest questions we have about God, particularly those frustrating ones we tend to poke into the background, because there seems no point in wondering. Why are desert times said to be 'necessary' in our relationship with God, when we don't have them with significant fellow humans? Why does He keep Himself hidden like a kid playing hide and seek? And one I've often grappled with at different times, why should we even want to be friends with Him, if He behaves so coy and perverse? After all, human parents don't hang back, and stay silent and aloof when their children ask them questions.

It was refreshing to come across a book which is so direct in asking such things. Mike Erre understands why it may be easy to wonder if there is, in fact, something wrong with us, and our receivers. His observations about our end of the communication were interesting, indicating that some of our problems may be to do with assumptions we've made, which originated with vocal Christians and not with God.

He examines how we often choose to come to God out of self-interested motives, rather than simply wanting to know Him for His own sake. He points out possible flaws in our methods of sharing Him with others. Jesus Himself never felt the need to dazzle people into His kingdom, as modern Christians often seemed compelled to do, making them come across the same way as those annoying steak-knife salesmen. He was content with obscurity, and felt no pressure to polish up His message to make it more palatable for the crowds. If people wanted to pursue other options, He simply let them. And if we want to present Him as something He never presented Himself, that's our problem.

Are all of the questions answered completely? No, but if there was any way they could be, the title of this book couldn't be called "Astonished". God's mysterious and surprising ways of working are part of His character. This book's intent seemed to be to help us find out more about God, and as a bonus, it helps us find out more surprising things about ourselves, including dodgy motives and counterproductive ways to trying to probe the mystery. I enjoyed it.

Honest and heartfelt, a good introduction to a way to think about God.

It is clear from this book that Mike is passionate about God and correcting misunderstandings of who He is and how He works. This is the theme of the book, that God is more, different and beyond anything we can imagine. He makes (and sometimes belabors) the point that God's plan is not the removal of earthly suffering but instead allowing earthly suffering and using it to shape and mold His people. He makes an excellent argument that Jesus is the literal embodiment of the God who does not conform to our expectations. if there is a place the book falls short it is that it does not address in clear enough terms how we should live out this reality in our lives. Even with this mild shortcoming, I suspect this book will be helpful to many, as it does a good job of challenging many of the wrong assumptions about God that have infected the American Church in recent years.

Mike was my pastor at Rock Harbor in Costa Mesa, CA. I was drawn to the Saturday night service because it was the test run of the weekend sermons. What I found refreshingly disarming was the candor yet orthodoxy in Mike's messages to us. His writing style is the same. The book reads like a recording: I can "hear" Mike's voice. I feel as if he is sitting with me and relating the book's message. He shares the word of God as he addresses the challenges that the children of God face as they wrestle with unbelief and aim to find again not the God they want, but the One who is the great I Am.

About the Author
E. R. Braithwaite was born in British Guiana (now Guyana) in 1912. Educated at the City College of New York and the University of Cambridge, he served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Braithwaite spent 1950 to 1960 in London, first as a schoolteacher and then as a welfare worker—experiences he describes in To Sir, With Love and Paid Servant, respectively. In 1966 he was appointed Guyana’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations. He has also held positions at the World Veterans Federation and UNESCO, was a professor of English at New York University’s Institute for Afro-American Affairs, and taught creative writing at Howard University. The author of five nonfiction books and two novels, he currently lives in Washington, DC.

Wonderful Book!
